Gambian artist Bai Babu is currently touring North America. He is accompanied by the Senegalese artist Pape Diouf.
Having already started the tour on 9 July, both recording artists will play venues in the US and Canada till 11 August. Bai Babou has had an eventful year so far, picking up the highest nominations at the recent Wah Sa Halat Music Awards. At the ceremony proper, he was highest winner, receiving four trophies.
It is a long way for the former footballer, who played for a second division club in Gambia. His career as music artist began in 2011 and by 2013, he had released a debut mixtape called ‘Dama Yii’. His career grew from the success of the mixtape.
Speaking about Bai Babu’s tour, Saul Sowe, chief executive officer Joluv Arts Entertainment told Gambian publication The Voice Vibes that his artist will be performing 11 shows within US and Canada. The tour, he said, is an agreement between Joluv Arts and Prince Arts Entertainment in Dakar, Senegal.
“This is just one of the projects we agree to do during this 2016/17 between the two labels,” he said. “This is not only for Bai Babou but all the artists in the Joluv arts label. This US tour will be over around August 9 when we will start the European tour, for Europe dates are not confirm yet.”
Sowe also said that Bai Babu will record an album with Pap Diouf which will be also be launched by the two labels. Both artists already have collaborated on the song 'Malaw'. The song was met with outrage by a TV personality in Senegal who called for its ban. Sowe, however, assured the general public that so far all the performances done by Bai Babu has been successful, with audiences demanding for more.
