Beyoncé shares video for Brown Skin Girl featuring WizKID

The singer first teased the clip on July 31 and finally released on Monday 24 August.

The video is taken from her densely collaborative album The Lion King: The Gift and appears in the recently released Disney+ visual album, Black Is King. It features cameo appearances from actress Lupita Nyong’o, former Destiny’s Child partner Kelly Rowland and international model, Naomi Campbell.

The six-minute-long video clip was directed by Jenn Nkiru and is dedicated to Beyoncé’s 3-year-old son. It unravels as an elegant portrayal of the beauty of black women. It features majestic girls and women of colour planted in breathtaking indoor and outdoor scenes.

“It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown, and I wanted every character to be shined on in a regal light,” Beyoncé told Good Morning America on Monday [August 24]. “It was important that we’re all in this together, and we all are celebrating each other.”

Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Busiswa and Salatiel are among African musicians who were recruited for Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift LP, the project that works as the soundtrack for a reimagination of The Lion King film.

‘Brown Skin Girl’ has won the BET HER Award. It also picked up a Soul Train Awards laurel as well as an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Duo or Group.
