Boomplay partners with Nigerian telco on ‘affordable bundles’
Africa-facing music streaming service Boomplay Music has partnered with Nigerian telco 9mobile to provide affordable bundles to subscribers as part of its efforts to drive music streaming in Africa.
The agreement follows a similar deal between Boomplay and MTN Nigeria last month that offers customers subscription packages to Boomplay’s catalogue of more than 70 million songs. Last year, Boomplay also rolled out a strategic partnership with Airtel Nigeria to offer subscribers more affordable streaming.
The latest partnership gives 9mobile subscribers unlimited music streaming and downloads as well as access to Boomplay’s extensive catalogue starting at ₦150 ($0.36).
The available music plans include daily, weekly and monthly subscription packages combined with complimentary data that users can use for all online activities.
“We are very optimistic about cementing a business relationship with 9mobile, which will grant many more Nigerians access to the music they love through affordable data packages,” Boomplay Nigeria general manager Dele Kadiri said.
Kenechukwu Okonkwo, 9mobile director of product innovation and business development, stressed Nigerians’ love for great music. “9mobile is passionate about what excites Nigerians, which is why we are excited about working with Boomplay to deliver quality and affordable premium music streaming to Nigerians. The high-speed connectivity that comes with our data packages will ensure a seamless experience for users.”
Boomplay is Africa’s biggest digital service provider, boasting more than 65 million monthly active users. The company recently sealed a reciprocal partnership with Triller to promote the two companies’ African music playlists. Additionally, Boomplay’s streaming data is now included in a number of Billboard charts.
