Burna Boy releases Love, Damini album
Nigerian Afro-fusion act Burna Boy has released his sixth full-length album Love, Damini. The LP, comprising 19 songs, is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
Partially named after Burna Boy’s first name, Love, Damini is the follow-up to 2020’s Grammy-winning Twice As Tall and was heralded by the singles ‘Kilometre and ‘Last Last’. The collection boasts features from international acts like Kehlani, Khalid, J Balvin, Popcaan, J Hus and Ed Sheeran.
Burna Boy first announced the album in April while on tour in the US, noting that it would be released on his 31st birthday on 2 July. The project arrives a week later.
Thematically, Love, Damini – which fuses everything from Afrobeat, dancehall and hip hop – grapples primarily with the theme of love. The singer says that the project also invites listeners to embrace other emotions.
“After turning 30, birthdays seem to make you reflect on your life choices, or a lack thereof – your goals, dreams, hopes, achievements and fears. Even though it put me in a vulnerable place, it also challenged me to do and feel more,” he said.
“I want you to listen to this and feel like it’s a roller-coaster ride. Catch a vibe, buss a whine, party like it’s your birthday, or even grab a tissue. I’ve got you, always.”
Burna Boy is the founder of Spaceship Entertainment. His other studio collections include L.I.F.E (2013), On a Spaceship (2015), Outside (2018) and African Giant (2019).
