Call for applications: Forecast artist mentorship in Germany

Forecast gives artists the chance to work with accomplished mentors towards bringing their projects to fruition. Forecast transcends neatly defined disciplines and genres to provide insight into creative production processes and carve out a space for the questions on the minds of the next generation of trailblazers.

Forecast selects six mentors from various disciplines who offer selected participants their expertise in specifying and realising their project ideas. the sixth edition’s mentors are sound and installation artist Emeka Ogboh (Nigeria), experimental singer and composer Sofia Jernberg (Sweden), architect Tatiana Bilbao (Mexico), digital policy expert Francesca Bria (Italy), cartoonist Ulli Lust (Austria) and choreographer Mathilde Monnier (France).

The mentors will engage with practices that question fixed notions and challenge the status quo. In the current social climate, Forecast seeks to chart audacious paths forward rather than focus on mere survival or resilience.

Conditions

• Each Forecast mentor will decide individually which applicants will participate at the Forecast Forum, and later at the festival.
• All applicants will receive notification of the decisions on or before 5 May.
• Travel and accommodation costs for all successful applicants will be reimbursed (depending on actual costs and according to the German Travel Expenses Act).
• If selected for the mentoring phase and the subsequent Forecast Festival in April 2022, applicants will also receive an artist fee and production budget for the realisation of the project.
• In case a group is admitted as one nominee, or later on as a mentee, Forecast will not guarantee to grant travel costs to more than one person, and the overall budget for the intended project will not be higher than that for projects submitted by a single person.

Requirements

Interested creatives should have the following information ready before applying:

• Name of mentor.
• Core concept (outline your project proposal).
• Proposal (describe what you intend to achieve).
• Portfolio.
• CV.
• Information about the applicant’s life and career.

“We find it implausible and unacceptable that a talented dramatist or innovative artist should not receive the support, encouragement and attention he or she requires to evolve and grow,” Forecast says. “When creatives subordinate their individual projects to a market, or abandon their personal strengths entirely, we see this as an outrageous waste of time, creativity and courage.”
