Call for applications: Grants for residency in Austria

AIR Niederösterreich is a cross-discipline programme for architects, visual artists, musicians and writers in Krems an der Donau, Austria’s northeastern city in Lower Austria. The scholarships shall be awarded based on the premise that foreign artists are to be given the opportunity to work in Lower Austria and get to know different art and cultural institutions in this country.

The initiative offers free studio apartments, which serve as temporary living and working places from one to three months. In addition, the artist-in-residence will also receive a sum of €1 300 ($1 500) per month. By bringing foreign artists in contact with the Austrian artist scene, the organisation says it seeks to contribute to the internationalisation of art in the country and to promote a process of interdisciplinary exchange in the arts.

“In some cases, AIR can facilitate the presentation of projects developed in Krems or previously planned artwork,” AIR says. “Generally speaking, AIR events are realized in cooperation with a number of art institutions in Lower Austria and Vienna with the aim of establishing a permanent place for AIR projects in the annual programs of these institutions, thus integrating the grant recipients in the Austrian art and artist scene.”

The following grant prerequisites apply

• Artists and artists residing in Austria are not eligible to apply.
• The basic prerequisite for funding is a degree in a field of art (university level). If the applicant does not -have a university degree, proof of equivalent ability must be provided through his or her artistic career.
• In any case, the applicant must demonstrate regular artistic activity in the proposed areas of funding.

How to apply

• Applications are accepted only via our online application tool (we do not accept applications via e-mail).
• Participants will be determined by an advisory council for the given discipline.
• The deadline for applications is 31 August at 23:59.
• Application material that has been submitted will not be returned.
• Incomplete applications will not be considered.
• A notification will be sent unexceptionally at a positive conclusion of the selection process.
• An 80% attendance at AIR is compulsory for successful candidates.
