Joburg City Theatres (JCT) in South Africa is calling on experienced individuals to submit applications for a producer vacancy at Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein.
The producer will be responsible for producing all aspects of the theatre’s in-house productions, and negotiate contracts with potential visiting companies and co-producers in consultation with the chief operations officer and artistic director. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day producing requirements of the productions while in performance and will be the main point of liaison for internal and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include, among others:
- Implementing the company’s artistic policy and objectives.
- Assist in planning and delivering of all theatre arts programmes, special projects and auxiliary programme activities.
- Preparing documentation and contracts for in-house productions, co-productions and/or tenant hires to be hosted at the theatre; negotiate possible dates and basic terms of lease agreements with producers, tenants, co-producers and their representatives.
- Assist the programming team – chief operations officer and artistic director – with all administrative duties.
- Ensure that approved budgets are adhered to.
- Be aware of current news, trends and innovations within the theatre industry and be proactive in identifying opportunities from such trends.
- Attend performances on a regular basis in order to ensure maintenance of standards throughout the run.
- Build and maintain excellent working relationships with all relevant external stakeholders on behalf of the department.
Requirements
- A relevant qualification in an arts or business management discipline.
- A minimum 10 years’ experience in the arts or theatre environment/industry.
- Ability to establish useful contacts in the industry.
- High levels of proficiency in written and verbal communications in the English language.
- Excellent project management, budgeting and organisational skills.
- Basic accounting skills.
- Problem-solving skills.
- A willingness to work unsociable hours.
Salary
- R461 784 – R593 688 per annum.
- Negotiable based on proven experience.
