Call for applications: Music publishing internship in Uganda

Since 2018, the company has simplified music rights management, including the administration of music publishing assets, performing rights and digital licensing for independent songwriters, composers, arrangers, creative writers, producers and labels in the East African country.

“Before Opus Music Publishing Group, most songwriters were unable to collect global royalties for the performance of their music, or in most cases creators did not know how to earn some revenue through their works,” the company’s CEO, Tayebwa David, told Music In Africa.

"We intend to release a sound library later in the year that will contain music from East African artists. Local PROs [performing rights organisations] have been unable to collect all foreign performance royalties owed to songwriters, and the royalties they can collect are subject to many fees, leaving the songwriter with a fraction of their royalties.

“With Opus Music Publishing Group, songwriters can register their songs directly with collection societies across the globe and collect every penny they are owed.”

Successful candidates will be retained as full-time employees after a period of three months, provided that they execute their duties as required.

The application deadline is 1 June.

Eligibility

Interested candidates must:

• Be 18 years of age or older.
• Be highly organised and capable of working independently.
• Have excellent interpersonal skills.
• Be digitally/technically savvy, and proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Docs.
• Have the ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and with discretion.
• Have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to track and follow through on multiple concurrent projects to completion.

Degree and diploma holders in the following areas are encouraged to apply:
