Call for applications: Music research sub-editor

The sub-editor will work on a part-time basis and be responsible for commissioning research in specific countries and editing submitted articles for online use. The sub-editor will ensure correct grammar, spelling, style, tone and flow of Music In Africa’s Overview articles, which provide objective insight into the music industries of various African countries.

The sub-editor will also be responsible for fact checking the veracity of articles and their references. Candidates must be prepared for a fair amount of rewriting and additional research, and should have a strong understanding of the African music sector. Connections in the sector will be an advantage.

The sub-editor will work closely with Music In Africa’s senior editor in Johannesburg. A detailed style guide (British English) will be provided and texts are expected to conform to strict guidelines and guarantee consistency.

Requirements

• Fluent in English
• At least 5 years’ editing experience
• Flawless writing skills (English)
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Exceptional music knowledge
• Knowledge of Google Docs
• Good communication skills
• Desire to contribute to Africa’s industry
• Relevant tertiary education qualification

The candidate must preferably be based in Johannesburg and able to attend regular editorial meetings.
