Call for applications: Music workshop in Kenya

Since 2008, the academy has grown into a significant resource for the Kenyan music industry by training more than 1 000 singers, some of whom are currently voice coaches at the school. The academy's alumni include Sauti Sol, H_art the Band, Willy Paul, Phy, Kaskazini and Bahati.

It believes that the workshop will benefit young talents because music education in Mombasa consists only of a few private tutors, so there is an enormous need for artist development programmes.

The workshop will run from 10am to 4pm daily and applicants are advised to book early, as there are only 30 slots available. Bookings are on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition, talented singers from underprivileged backgrounds will be given an opportunity to secure a scholarship at the academy.

The deadline for application is 5 July 2019.

To participate one must:

• Be over 18 years old
• Pay 4 000 Kenyan shillings ($40) as attendance fee

The training will be based on

• Songwriting
• Vocal techniqu
• Music interpretation and performance.
