The South African Cultural Observatory (SACO) is calling on artists interested individuals to attend a capacity building workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 19 June.
The workshop is intended to equip attendees with information on Intellectual Property in the South African arts industry.

The workshop will touch on the following topics:
- What is intellectual property?
- What is the role and purpose of intellectual property and intellectual property law?
- What are the various forms of intellectual property?
- What are copyrights, patents, trademarks and designs?
- How are the different forms of intellectual property regulated in South Africa?
- What should artists do to acquire, protect and benefit from their intellectual property?
- What are the ways in which intellectual property rights can be infringed?
- What are the remedies to the intellectual property rights owner if the rights are infringed?
The workshop will run from 08:30am to 15:30pm at Constitution Hill, 11 Kotze Street, the Old Fort Building in Braamfontein.
