Call for auditions: Spot the Talent Youth Empowerment competition in Sierra Leone
06 Oct 2020 - 13:28
The organisers of the Spot the Talent Youth Empowerment competition in Sierra Leone are calling for interested persons to audition for its maiden edition slated for 2021.
The annual competition is open exclusively to Sierra Leoneans and will function as a springboard for undiscovered young talents in the West-African country to showcase their gifts, according to creative entrepreneur and Spot the Talent CEO Marvin Sesay.
“The mission of Spot the Talent is to empower young talented Sierra Leoneans who don't have a big platform but have amazing talents,” he said, adding that the competition will also help change negative narratives about the country which he notes is rich in both natural and human resources.
Furthermore, the programme seeks to strengthen already existing structures within Sierra Leone’s entertainment industry so as to produce more creatives who will invariably serve as ambassadors for the country.
Auditions will be open in 12 categories for the competition. They include singing, dance, DJing, poetry, film, blogging and online promotion, fashion designing, modelling, comedy, hairstyling, makeup artistry and body painting. The winners in the various categories will be rewarded with a joint cash prize of Le 100 000 000 (about $10 186).
Sesay also called on all Sierra Leoneans to present a united front in the vision of promoting gifted young people from the country. “If we don't do so, the country will be unable to compete with the rest of the world.
"The country only needs polishing,” he added. “Once that is done, we will become the paradise of the world.”
Three auditions will be held for the competition starting from 27 November. During this period, a jury consisting of industry experts will shortlist contestants for the quarterfinal and semifinal stages as well as the grand finale which will be held on 9 January 2021.
Audition forms are available at various locations including Tumac Radio, Citizen Radio and Radio Galaxy all in Sierra Leone. For further information, send an email to [email protected].
