Call for funding: Story of South African Jazz Volume 2 launch

The funds, according to Douglas, will be used to broadcast the story at Kwa Muhle museum with Jazz Xpressions in Durban and at the Roving Bantu Kitchen in Johannesburg on 6 and 12 December respectively. The Story of South African Jazz live music and book release is intended for the preservation, documentation and education from past, through present to future generations.

Struan intends to raise $4 400 and interested people can use this link to donate. The campaign ends on 14 November.

“The Story of South African Jazz is an important addition to the existing research, resources and stories that have emerged from all over the region of Southern Africa. This volume series is a book, research and oral history project to document the beautiful story of South African jazz in an open, inclusive, flourishing and accessible way. Volume 1 was launched in 2015 and Volume 2 will be launched in Durban and Johannesburg in December 2019.”

Struan encouraged people to commit towards this cause. “The Story of South African Jazz reaches out to the brotherhood and sisterhood of South African music to push us over the crowd funding finish line and bring this beautiful story to light and love.”

To bring this Volume 2 of this three-part series to life, Douglas said, we need the support of the South African music family.
