Event Guide Africa magazine, the organiser of the Ghana Event Awards (GEAs), is calling for nomination entries ahead of the launch of the annual event in May.
First held in 2017, the awards were established with the vision of rewarding event excellence in the country’s entertainment sector and beyond. This year, the awards will be held in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Arts, Tourism and Culture.
Event Guide Africa and GEAs CEO Kelvin Kenneth told Music In Africa that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to the cancellation of many regular events in the country, the GEAs could not take place last year, and this year’s edition would honour outstanding events in the country held between 2019 and 2020.
“This year, the scheme is combining events from last year and two years ago,” he said. “This year, we want to make it bigger. This means a bigger space to allow us to enforce COVID-19 safety protocols.”
Kenneth added: “We at the GEAs recognise the incredible work that the industry has seen over the years, particularly in the past year, when the global pandemic brought much of the industry to a standstill. As has been the vision of the scheme since its inception, all notable stakeholders in the event organisation value chain will be appreciated.”
In addition to the awards ceremony, the organisers will hold a seminar that will take stock of the current state of the event industry in Ghana and possible solutions for the future.
Previous GEAs winners include the Ghana Meets Naija concert, Stonebwoy’s Ashaiman to the World concert, Sarkodie’s Rapperholic concert and Vodafone Ghana Music Awards organisers Charterhouse Ghana, among others.
Nominations for the 2021 GEAs can be submitted via the GEAs official website.
The deadline for submissions is 30 April.
