Call for participation: DJ workshop in Tanzania

Starting out an active drummer on the booming German reggae scene of the early 1990s, DJ Razoof (born Uwe Lehr) provided the backbeat for household names like Gentleman, Bantu, Patrice and Don Abi before joining renowned soundsystem collective Solar Moon. After various albums, compilation contributions and gigs with others, Razoof started to produce original dub-infused, downtempo, deep house electronica. Released mainly through his own label, Nesta Recordings, his music has received positive feedback all over the world.

In 2013 Razoof released Jahliya Sound. The 12-track reggae album was recorded in Jamaica, Germany and The Gambia and features vocals by Jamaican stars like Luciano, Mykal Rose, Naptali and Lutan Fyah. In 2014 a 'dubs and mixes' version of the Jahliya Sound album was released.

At the end of 2014, Razoof moved to Uganda, where he is currently based and contributes to Uganda's thriving reggae scene. He is set to release another album sometime in 2016 featuring Kenya’s Binti Afrika.

How to participate

To take part in the workshop, participants are expected to submit their portfolio (including posters of events, videos, playlists, etc.) via email to d[email protected] for consideration. The deadline for applications is Friday 15 April.

Successful applicants will receive further instruction and the full workshop programme after being accepted. Travel costs will be reimbursed for successful applicants arriving from outside Dar es Salaam.
