Call for participation: Paradise Sound System workshop in SA

The initiative aims to assist independent artists with creating world-class content and ensuring it is distributed globally – all while retaining ownership in their creative works. The Paradise Sound System workshop is set to significantly bolster the global footprint of ten independent South African artists when its first edition gets underway in Johannesburg at the end of January.

Paradise Distribution CEO and founder Ralph Boege will speak at the workshop which will focus on issues currently facing independent South African artists – especially those that want to develop a global business and explore options for untapped revenue models in 2020 and beyond.

The ten selected artists will be given the opportunity to record at Jazzworx Studio in Johannesburg, with its award-winning production team. Each artist will emerge with:

• One live performance video edit (two cameras set up) to promote new music.
• Video teaser for the promotion of the live performance video before it is released.
• Three mastered live songs.

“Those artists selected to be part of the Paradise Sound System’s inaugural edition will be given this opportunity at no cost, as part of a new German-African initiative between Berlin-based Paradise Entertainment & Distribution GmbH and several highly experienced South African music industry partners,” a statement reads. “Among these is the Jazzworx Studio, a leading production facility that has produced a slate of iconic and chart-topping releases over the past 20-plus years. The first Paradise Sound System will take place at Jazzworx’s Johannesburg studio, from 28 to 31 January.

“The production of this high-end content will be followed by a bespoke distribution plan. This will be created with each artist in collaboration with Paradise Sound System’s offices in Berlin and San Francisco, and the local team in South Africa. The ten artists chosen will also benefit from the expert advice of the Paradise Sound System team, including on management, remix strategies, rights management, current digital platforms and other key aspects of a global music career.”

In collaboration with South African experts, including Sarah Jane Nicholson, Paradise Sound System aims to use its highly effective international network to spotlight the African music scene to a worldwide audience. This commitment is also visible in its participation at the upcoming Africa Rising Music Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa in April.
