Call for participation: re:publica Accra

The ideas should be generated into talks, panels, workshops, installations, exhibitions and performances that will inform the event's programming.

The event, which is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, accepts contributions in the following areas: arts and culture, media and journalism, politics and society, business and innovation, as well as science and education.

All submissions should be relevant to the core issues addressed by re:publica.

Interested participants can register here. The deadline for submissions is 9 September and the organisers will begin contacting the applicants from 20 September.

Requirements

• Each person is allowed one entry.
• Anyone is free to apply.
• Every person submitting must either provide a reference of a public speaking event or a short video message.

Re:publica has the ability to offer applicants travel funding whether they’re coming from the African continent or other parts of the world.

“We look for content that critically reflects on the challenges and opportunities brought by digital transformation,” the organisation said. “At the core of our conference is the question, how can we all contribute to shaping the digital future we want? How can we work towards a free and open Internet that enables free and democratic societies?

Re:publica Accra is also offering the Made in Africa marketplace where interested parties can showcase innovative products such as apps and devices. Individuals with open-source projects and tools are welcome to offer a workshop or training to show potential users how to use them.

“There is more to it than just a display of the latest technological developments, it's about evaluating them in the long term and making suggestions for the future,” re:publica said. “In addition to the stage content (talks, panels, workshops) and the marketplace, we want to create space for meetups, networking and exchange.”
