Call for submissions: Open Society University Network research fellowship

OSUN is a new global network of educational institutions that integrate learning and the advancement of knowledge in the arts, social sciences, humanities and other scientific fields. The research hub is a critical part of its broader work in Eastern Africa, including undergraduate course offerings for displaced and host community learners, teacher training on behalf of Open Society and expanding access to higher education for underserved communities.

Applicants’ research should be based in the region of Eastern Africa and cover any of the following topics:

• Arts and open society.
• Global public health.
• Democratic practice.
• Sustainability.
• Inequalities.
• Human rights.

Fellows will serve as the inaugural cohort for the hub and will have the opportunity to work closely with the faculty and OSUN leadership on setting the agenda and direction of the work. They will receive a monthly stipend of $700 each.

During the fellowship period, researchers will be expected to:

• Complete a research or writing project.
• Support the development of OSUN’s Eastern Africa research hub. Participate in a monthly planning session with the hub leadership team and affiliate faculty.
• Present to the OSUN Network at least twice.

Requirements

Interested researchers should submit the following:

• A resume showing their interests and experience in conducting research.
• Two letters of reference.
• A writing sample of a maximum of 10 pages.
• A one-page proposal for the research and writing they propose to complete by the end of the fellowship period.

Note:

• The work can include written, audio or video material. Final submissions will need to be in a complete, edited and publishable form by January 2022.
• The fellowship will conclude with a reflection session and a final presentation on the completed and publishable work in January 2022.
• Priority will be given to researchers from or working in Eastern Africa.
