American digital distribution platform CD Baby has announced its seventh annual DIY Musician Conference, which will take place virtually and in-person at the Hilton Austin in Texas from 26 to 28 August.
The conference is among the largest accessible, educational and motivational gatherings geared toward independent musicians globally. It will mark the first opportunity for delegates to come together since the 2020 edition. The attendees will get a chance to connect with tastemakers and industry representatives who could jumpstart the next phase of their careers.
The participants can expect an array of sessions offered by the execs covering topics from live-streaming strategies, connecting to fans on social platforms, launching a release, marketing music, and more. Over three days, the attendees will also get a chance to work one-on-one with expert mentors and play with fellow artists.
“One of our goals is for musicians to walk away with plans of action and the fire to get it done,” CD Baby’s newly appointed senior vice-president of artist engagement and education, Kevin Breuner, said. “CD Baby is dedicated to making the DIY Musician Conference a gateway to everything artists need to succeed, including new sources of income and new deals to serve artist needs. Guided by artists for artists, speakers reflect the make-up of actual DIY music communities.”
The 2022 programme will be announced soon. Previous conferences have included keynote speakers including Questlove, Run-DMC co-founder Darryl McDaniels, Patreon CEO Jack Conte, NPR host Bob Boilen, and music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas.
CD Baby was established in 1998 and is now owned by Downtown Music Holdings. The distribution hub is home to more than 1 million artists and has paid out over $1bn in artist royalties.
