Coke Studio Africa to feature Jason Derulo
Popular TV series Coke Studio Africa is set to host American popstar Jason Derulo this season.
In 2014 Coke Studio Africa brought Wyclef Jean to viewers of the programme. The 'Sweetest Girl' singer proceeded to deliver ‘Divine Sorrow’. In 2015, it was the turn of popstar NE-YO; he took Peace One Day to Rwanda and performed a Coke Studio original song, ‘Reason’. Trey Songz was the guest in 2016.
This year Coke Studio brings Derulo, a singer described by a statement from the organisers as "a new-school, multi-talented creative giant who has sold over 50 million singles and impressively achieved 11 platinum singles including ‘Wiggle’, ‘Whatcha’ Say’, ‘Talk Dirty’, ‘It Girl’, ‘In My Head’, ‘Trumpets’ and ‘Marry Me’."
As earlier announced, this year Coke Studio Africa and Coke Studio South Africa have merged into a "bigger and better" Coke Studio Africa. This new format has confirmed Jason Derulo as the guest star. He will feature on a special episode tagged 'the Global Fusion Edition!'
Currently enjoying the rewards of his latest hit song ‘Swalla’, Derulo is expected to fly to Nairobi, Kenya, this week. He will arrive in time to join the recording of the latest season of Coke Studio Africa.
Two of Africa’s hottest music producers, Masterkraft (Nigeria) and DJ Maphorisa (South Africa), are to produce all of the songs to be delivered by performers, including Derulo. After the recording, these songs will be performed and recorded live supported by Coke Studio’s house band. It is unclear how production duties will be shared for this edition, as last season DJ Maphorisa was the sole producer for the collaborations between Trey Songz and selected African stars.
