Coronavirus: Liberian Entertainment Awards 2020 postponed
16 Mar 2020 - 10:07
The Liberian Entertainment Awards 2020 scheduled to take place in Washington, DC on Friday 13 March was been postponed.
The postponement of the award ceremony is mainly due to the Coronavirus – COVID 19 pandemic. People are advised to avoid large gatherings in many countries around the world including the US to prevent the spread of the virus.
The organisers of LEA made the announcement in a press release on social media on the eve of the ceremony. It reads:
”After consultations with the Department of Health, UDC (University of the District of Columbia) Theater of Arts, other partners, and concerns from our community about the pandemic, we are postponing the award ceremony. As events develop, we will keep everyone informed of our proposed new date.
We understand the value of the LEA and what it means to our nominees, presenters, performers, guests and our entertainment industry. However, when there’s a huge health risk, everything else becomes secondary. We remain committed to celebrating our entertainers. All of our efforts are needed to conquer this deadly virus.
Until then, we look forward to a future LEA Awards ceremony. We apologise and are sensitive to whatever inconvenience this may have caused.
Recommended resources: World Health Organization and the Centre for Disease Control.”
The spate of cancellations that has affected events in all spheres of life including the music industry continues as the world currently remains in the grip of Coronavirus. Promoters and cultural organisations have expressed grave concerns with regard to the impact of the health crisis on the music business and expect losses, while artists fear for their income being slashed. Some concert halls have called on the solidarity of its patrons, not to ask for refunds for cancelled shows, while others, such as the Metropolitan Opera, offer live streaming or free streaming of their earlier shows.
