Dutch-Ghanaian rapper Frenna releases Dragon Roll ahead of new album
15 Jan 2021 - 14:40
Dutch-Ghanaian singer and rapper Frenna released a new single ‘Dragon Roll’ on 15 January ahead of his forthcoming fifth solo album.
The song, published on 777 Records and available across major digital platforms, follows the release of ‘Mansory’ last week with Lijpe, which debuted at No 1 on the Dutch Spotify chart.
‘Dragon Roll’, co-produced by Diquenza and Churchbwoy, is the first of a number of Afrobeats tracks that will be featured on Frenna’s upcoming album. Frenna and Diquenza previously collaborated on ‘Cursed’, off Frenna’s sophomore album. The song was certified platinum in 2018.
The accompanying music video for ‘Dragon Roll’ was shot in Dubai and directed by Caio Silva and Elvira Waterfall. It finds the musician immersed in the lavish atmosphere the city is known for.
A member of rap collective SFB, Frenna (born Francis Edusei) is best known for songs like ‘Ghetto Youth’, ‘Praying in the Jeep’, ‘Give Dem’, ‘Money Deh Yah’ and ‘Blessings’. In 2019, Frenna became the most-streamed Dutch artist with more than 336 million streams. He released his first album Geen Oog Dicht Gedaan in 2016 and followed it up with We Don’t Stop, a collaboration with Diquenza, in 2017. Francis, his next project, received 4 times platinum certification and has now spent over 100 weeks in the top 100 album charts. His last album, The Album on its way to ‘The Album' was released in 2020.
In March last year, speaking to Amsterdam-based newspaper Het Parool, Frenna disclosed hopes of representing the Netherlands globally in the coming years. “That is really my dream, for people to say: the Dutchman made it work.”
Meanwhile, the musician also revealed that his new album will be composed of a horn and percussion-filled mix of African pop, R&B, hip hop and reggae.
