Emeli Sandé to sing at Laureus Awards

Founded in 1999, the event is designed to honour the highest achieving sportsmen and women across all sports each year. The event will also shine a light on Laureus Sport for Good, a charity which uses the power of sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage.

Sandé, who is born to a Zambian father and an English mother, is no stranger to performing on sporting stages. In 2012, the 30-year-old singer sang at the opening and closing ceremonies at the London Olympic Games.

“Sport at any level is inspirational,” Sandé said. “Having performed at and been motivated by the athletes at the London 2012 Olympics, I’m excited to get on stage to sing for sports stars around the world at next week’s Laureus World Sports Awards. It’s going to be a special evening of celebration and I can’t wait.”

Emeli has earned herself respect in the music industry both as a musician and globally recognised songwriter. Previously she has worked with big names such as Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Tinie Tempah and Leona Lewis.

The ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’ singer broke through as a solo artist with her debut album Our Version of Events in 2012 featuring hit singles ‘Heaven’ and ‘Next to Me’.

In her solo career, Sandé has regularly fronted and supported world-renowned artists such as David Guetta, Professor Green and Labrinth. Emeli, whose Long Live the Angels album was inspired by her visit to Zambia in 2015, helped the singer win the Best British Female Solo Artist Award at the 2017 Brit Awards.
