Eswatini: Listen to Skinny G’s new single SODV featuring Mzion

The song, which is distributed online under Universal Music Group, is an abbreviation for Sexual Offences Domestic Violence (SODV) and was inspired by the SODV Act No.15 that was enacted in 2018 in Eswatini.

The song was cowritten by Mzion and produced by Darlington Simelane. The upbeat track offers a unique blend of his Swati and Ghanaian lyrics on an amapiano instrumental, a slight departure from his typical mix of Afrobeats sounds.

In an interview with Music In Africa, Skinny G said that the song is about the actions that people make that can often lead to situations where the SODV Act must be enforced.

“So in other words we are saying we should be careful with our actions whether male or female,” Skinny G said. “Because the act seeks to protect everyone regardless of gender. We got into studio and brainstormed a problem in society and decided to write about it. It definitely had to be on an amapiano beat to create a vibe but at the same time creating awareness about the Act.

“We all know amapiano quickly gets you grooving. I'm not focused on an album yet. Focused on just making music to curb a fan base as a developing artist. When I'm ready to put out an album, SODV will definitely be on the album. The feedback from this single has motivated me to keep on [making music].”

This is Skinny G’s debut single released under his recording stable G-Stars Entertainment & Projects. The musician has previously released 'The List, Emoji Indvwang’ and says he seeks to redefine modern day artistry as he meshes his western and southern African cultural heritages. His music is described as a futuristic sound that transcends the boundaries of age, sex and religion.
