Gambian record label Sahel Entertainment has signed Nacif, a reggae-dancehall act, as its first artist. His contract reportedly covers three years.
Nacif is expected to release two singles ‘Everything Turn Up’ and ‘Hot Sauce Gyal’ soon. A debut album from the artist is expected next year.
Hip-hop act Retsam, Sahel Entertainment’s manager, said he couldn't have found a better artist for the label. He added that Sahel Entertainment will provide the new signee with all will need to bring something new to the Gambian music scene.
For his part, Nacif said he would not disappoint the label, his family and Gambians at large.
Paul Nacif Maroun, who uses his middle name as his stage name, was born on 26 July 1987 in Kololi village, Gambia. As a teenager he was encouraged by his music-loving father to play the guitar. He soon began to write his own lyrics and grew up to become a reggae-dancehall artist.
In 2012, he recorded his first hit song ‘Hey Girlfirend’, which was produced by ShyBoy. He has since worked with several producers and studios based in the Gambia.
Nacif, who has four siblings and a daughter, has also worked in the cinema industry, starring in a film titled The Groom’s Bride in 2013.
