The Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) has distributed GHS1.43 million (about $123 500) in royalties to music rights holders as part of its July 2026 distribution.
GHAMRO chairperson Rex Owusu Marfo.
The payout, totalling GHS1 433 571.43 million, covered royalties from digital mechanical, background music, digital performance and live performance rights.
GHAMRO said the distribution was based on verified music usage data, ownership splits, rights matching, reconciliation and royalty reporting. The organisation also said the process used rights management and data systems associated with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), CIS-Net and ACRCloud.
The July distribution also recognised the 20 most-used works and the 10 highest royalty payouts during the period.
Established in 2011 under Section 49 of Ghana’s Copyright Act 690, GHAMRO is the country’s collective management organisation responsible for collecting and distributing royalties generated from the use of musical works and sound recordings. It operates under Ghana's Copyright Regulations and is overseen through the Copyright Office.
As a non-profit organisation, GHAMRO said royalties collected are distributed to authors, publishers, performers, record producers and composers after administrative costs, with payments determined by the use of their works.
The organisation is a provisional member of CISAC and has reciprocal representation agreements with collective management and rights organisations in Ghana and internationally, including the South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) and the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association (CAPASSO).
GHAMRO also issues licences to music users, allowing them to legally use music in public spaces after making the required annual payment.
The organisation said its latest distribution forms part of efforts to improve transparency, accountability and accuracy in Ghana’s music royalty system through technology and data-driven rights management.
