Ghana: Flip the Music label partners with RCA Records UK

Flip the Music was founded in 2020 by artist manager and marketing strategist Emmanuel Sedo, who doubles up as the president of the label, which is home to R&B singer Gyakie.

RCA UK is a flagship recording label under Sony Music Entertainment encompassing RCA Records and Since ‘93. RCA Records is headed by label president David Dollimore and managing director Stacey Tang. It is home to international popstars including Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Pink, Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus.

“Gyakie is now part of the RCA UK family,” the Sony Music Entertainment subsidiary posted on Instagram.

“I am excited to join RCA/Sony Music International with my label Flip the Music on my journey to become a global superstar,” Gyakie said.

“We are thrilled to join the Sony Music family,” Sedo said. “Gyakie has become a superstar in the African music scene, thus the reason for this partnership to propel her to the international music scene. We are eager for the journey ahead.”

Born Jackline Acheampong, Gyakie began her music career in 2019 while in college. She is behind local hits including ‘Love Is Pretty’ (2019), ‘Never Like This’ (2019) and ‘Sor Mi Mu’ (2020) featuring Bisa KDei. Gyakie’s debut EP Seed was released in August 2020, amassing 11 million cumulative streams across digital service providers to date. She is the daughter of highlife veteran Nana Acheampong.

The deal arrives on the heels of the 19 March release of the Omah Lay-assisted remix of ‘Forever’, which is the lead single on Seed.

“My verse on ’Forever Remix’ was written the first time I heard the song, way before we had any conversations about making a remix,” Omah Lay revealed on the day of the track’s release. “Sent in the verse an hour after Gyakie sent me the song.”
