Ghana: Gyakie releases trailer for debut album After Midnight
18 Aug 2025 - 09:00
Ghanaian singer Gyakie has released the official trailer for her debut album, After Midnight, which is set for release on 29 August.
The visual, directed by filmmaker Alex Piper – known for his work with artists including Rema, Playboi Carti and Travis Scott – traces Gyakie’s journey from her early interest in music to her emergence as a recognised performer.
Daughter of veteran Ghanaian musician Nana Acheampong, Gyakie said the project reflects her own artistic identity. “Almost all the songs on the album were recorded after midnight,” she said. “It is within those hours that I find my best inspiration to write. The peace and quiet, the sounds from the birds, the serenity, everything about that time fuels my creativity.”
The title refers to the late-night hours in which much of the music was created. According to Gyakie, the record explores themes of reflection, spirituality and family tradition, as well as love and celebration.
The trailer offers a preview of the themes and mood of the album, which Gyakie described as her most personal work to date.
After Midnight will be available from 29 August.
