Ghana: Lasmid joins Apple Music Up Next programme
Apple Music has announced Ghanaian singer Lasmid as its latest Up Next artist.
Launched in 2017, the Up Next artist development programme has played a pivotal role in spotlighting up-and-coming musical talent. The initiative’s global roster of past talent includes Burna Boy, Tems.H.E.R., Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish and Stefflon Don, among others.
In Ghana, Lasmid joins a growing list of exciting new voices that have been inducted in the programme, notably OliveTheBoy and Darkua, and he will be prominently featured across Apple Music’s Up Next playlist. Curated by Apple Music editors globally, the selection showcases a diverse class of emerging artists, offering exposure to a broader audience.
“I’m super elated to be selected for Up Next in Ghana for February,” Lasmid said. “Apple Music has also been like a family, supporting me since day one. Get ready to experience the infectious rhythms, captivating vocals, and irresistible energy that define Lasmid’s signature sound.”
Lasmid, whose sound trundles between Afrobeats and highlife, gained nationwide notice in 2019 after winning Ghana’s MTN Hitmaker reality show.
Best known for his 2022 single ‘Friday Night’ and his guest appearance on Liberian pop act JZyNO 2023’s ‘Butta My Bread’ single, the singer is also behind well-received releases like ‘Bad Boy’ (2023), ‘Fiona’ (2023) and ‘PUUL’ (2024).
In related news, Apple Music today launched a monthly version of its Replay experience, offering eligible subscribers worldwide access to expanded listening insights. The Replay mix that users already know also becomes available today for the 2024 calendar year. Users must listen to enough music to qualify for both the monthly insights and the yearly playlist.
