Ghana: MUSIGA secures insurance for its members

This was revealed during a signing ceremony at MUSIGA’s offices this week. Under the arrangement, members of the union who subscribe to the scheme will receive a comprehensive set of benefits, including temporary or permanent disability payments and critical illness benefits, among others. The development comes after MUSIGA released a song last month to create awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic.

MUSIGA representatives at the signing included acting president Bessa Simons, national treasurer Samuel Kofi Agyemang, national organiser Chizzy Wailer and the director of special projects and communications, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey. Also present were officials from the insurance company.

Simons said the deal would “ensure that members who sign on to the package will have protection in their time of need.”

SIC Life’s head of group business, David Ankrah, said: “It’s significant that MUSIGA is doing this to provide for its members in time of need.” He added that the company would make sure that MUSIGA members receive prompt payment after filing their claims. MUSIGA Greater Accra regional welfare officer Alex Odoi described the initiative as a welcome development.

Meanwhile, MUSIGA last Friday held a virtual concert in honour of former Ghanaian president Jerry John Rawlings who died in November after a short illness. Simons said the concert, which was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, offered Ghanaian musicians a platform to bid farewell to Rawlings.
