Ghana: new union committee meets rights organisation

Before the meeting the new MUSIGA executives had received a one-day orientation. At the orientation Kuffour told the committee that the aim was to inform the executives of the operation and programs of the union.

At the GHAMRO-MUSIGA meeting, Kuffour emphasised the need for harmony between the bodies and how necessary an efficient partnership is to the wellbeing of Ghanaian musicians. Some areas listed were: welfare programs, anti-piracy campaigns, and a workable pension scheme.

Kojo Antwi, Chairman of the GHAMRO board, in addressing the new elected officials, spoke about accountability and transparency in carrying out the functions of the MUSIGA body. He said his organisation would work with MUSIGA and ensure that the collaboration is effective and beneficial to the music industry.

Other board members from GHAMRO at the meeting include Welfare Chairman Alhaji Bandex, Vice Chairman Nana Tuffour, Augustina Addision and Rev Dr Mary Ghansah as well as the Administrators Abraham Adjetey and Jonathan Cudjoe.

A representative of the Ghana Phonographic Industries was present as well as a number of MUSIGA officials including 1st Vice President Bessa Simons, 2nd Vice President Rev Dr Thomas Yawson, National Treasurer Samuel Agyemang and Director of Communications and Special Projects Ahuma Bosco Ocansey.
