Ghana’s Kofi Bruce shares new folk single Yellow

The song is composed of witty storytelling and discusses the fresh flushes of love, falling under the palm-wine music genre, a variation of highlife. ‘Yellow’ adds to the musician’s growing catalogue, which includes other releases such as ‘Akwaaba’, ‘Aketesia’, ‘Martha Matter’ and ‘Philomina’, primarily addressing love and the moral crisis of marital infidelity.

Kofi Bruce’s sound blends both traditional and urban styles, borrowing from genres such as soul and jazz. As a producer, he has collaborated with other popular artists such as DopeNation, Fameye and Mista Silva.

When asked about the vision behind his new song and overall craft, Kofi Brice told Music In Africa that his sound reflects the unique perspective and experiences of Ghanaians, adding that the preservation and perpetuation of indigenous music is very important.

“Music is a powerful tool for cultural expression, and to me, music that is deeply rooted in the culture and history of a community is an important means of passing on knowledge from one generation to another. That is how we ensure that our cultural heritage as a people is not lost,” he said
