Gigi Lamayne, Mgaribe revisit SA classic with ‘Imnandi Lento Deep House Remix’

The remix combines elements of nostalgia with deep house production, retaining the familiarity of the original while introducing a contemporary dancefloor-oriented sound. The release draws on the cultural significance of the song while presenting it to a new audience through updated rhythms, production and lyricism.

Gigi Lamayne, who has built a career spanning hip hop, Afro House, Afro Tech, 3-Step and other dance music styles, brings her rap and performance style to the track. Mgaribe’s connection to the original adds continuity to the reinterpretation, linking the song's legacy with its new musical direction.

The release forms part of Lamayne’s broader work across multiple genres. The Johannesburg-based artist has performed at major events and gained international exposure through platforms including BBC 1Xtra, Rolling Stone South Africa, Mixmag and DJ Mag Africa.

She has also collaborated with artists including Yemi Alade, Wizkid and Blxckie, while advocating for greater opportunities for women in music and youth empowerment.

Lamayne previously became the first African female hip hop artist to headline a one-woman concert with an audience of more than 5 000 at the Gigi Gang Show.

With ‘Imnandi Lento (Deep House Remix)’, Lamayne and Mgaribe revisit a familiar piece of South African musical heritage while introducing it to contemporary house audiences.
