Global Citizen Live adds Muzi and Sho Majozi ahead of 25 September fest

The roster of performers now features South African musicians Muzi and Sho Madjozi, who will both perform from Johannesburg, while Nigerian Afrobeat artist Made Kuti will be broadcast from Lagos.

The musicians will join previously announced African artists including Femi Kuti, Davido and Tiwa Savage, who will perform from Lagos, as well as Burna Boy and Angélique Kidjo, who will play from New York and Paris respectively.

Other artists from around the world are Andrea Bocelli, BTS, Green Day, Keith Urban, Ricky Martin, Lorde, Metallica, Coldplay, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Jennifer Lopez, Lizzo, Stevie Wonder, Adam Lambert, Demi Lovato, H.E.R., OneRepublic, Meek Mill, Shawn Mendes Camilo, Lali, Chief Mapu, Aldeia Mutum and Owera, among others.

The event, which will bring together audiences from around the globe, will be broadcast over 24 hours on Apple Music, Apple TV App, YouTube and Twitter.

Global Citizen seeks to call on the wealthiest nations to deliver on their promise to donate $100bn annually to tackle climate change and other challenges in developing countries. In Lagos, Global Citizen is working with the Lagos State Government to create a limited-capacity event in celebration of Nigerians working on the front line in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Global Citizen Live event in Lagos will be hosted by TV personalities Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Nancy Isime. The show will be filmed in advance with a fully vaccinated audience or attendees who have presented a negative PCR test.

“I am honoured to help bring Global Citizen Live to Lagos, as we lift the voices of Africans everywhere,” Femi Kuti said. “But what is taking place on the continent right now is a tragedy. There is no reason that 1% of Nigerians have been vaccinated against COVID-19 while countries talk of booster shots. The G7 urgently needs to donate at least 1 billion doses by September.”

With the challenges of rising poverty, hunger and vaccine inequity facing Africa, we need businesses and governments around the world to respond to the call of citizens, stand in solidarity with the people of Africa and commit to defending the planet and defeating poverty and inequality.”
