Graphic design internship opportunity at Music In Africa

The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is seeking a talented Graphic Design Intern to join its team at the Rosebank office.
One of the largest arts institutions on the continent, MIAF delivers a wide range of cultural and creative-sector development programmes across Africa. These include the Music In Africa digital platform, large-scale research and policy initiatives, artist mobility programmes, capacity-building projects, and pan-African networking and knowledge-sharing activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for young creatives looking to gain real-world experience, build a professional design portfolio, and contribute to meaningful cultural projects within a respected organisation.
This opportunity forms part of the National Employment Facility for the Creative Industries in South Africa (NEFCISA), a MIAF-led initiative that creates jobs for the common good within South Africa’s creative economy.
Key responsibilities
The Graphic Design Intern will:
- Use Canva to design social media banners and digital assets
- Use Canva to create clean, professional project decks and presentations
- Support other basic design tasks across MIAF projects
Candidate profile
Ideal candidates should:
- Have strong Canva design skills
- Demonstrate a good eye for layout, typography, and visual consistency
- Be reliable, creative, and able to work to deadlines
- Have an interest in music, arts, and the creative industries
Formal qualifications are an advantage but not required.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens or hold a valid work permit
- Be aged 18–50 years
- Not be enrolled in another public employment programme
- Be available for a minimum of 10 days per month for up to 10 months
Placement
- 10-month placement under the NEFCISA social employment model
- Monthly wage
- Office-based role (Rosebank)
