How to | How copyright makes royalties (part 1/4)
17 Feb 2021 - 16:43
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) capacity-building playlist features educational videos that were produced as part of the Music In Africa Live (MIAL) initiative.
MIAL was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and supports musicians to earn an income from digital live performances while also funding projects that develop critical skills among professionals digitally.
The playlist features helpful video content on different aspects of the music industry, including copyright and royalties, the legal challenges experienced by music professionals, traditional instrument recording techniques, and music content broadcasting.
In How copyright makes royalties (part 1/4), an introduction to copyright in music is provided: what are they and who owns them? The significance of copyrights, metadata and the music business is discussed. A breakdown of the major aspects of the business such as labels’ and publishers’ shares is also provided.
The MIAL project is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, Siemens Stiftung and Goethe-Institut.
Visit the MIAL website here. Connect with us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and subscribe to our monthly newsletter.
