Instagram allows users to replace music on published posts

Instagram has introduced a feature that allows users to replace the music attached to published posts and carousels without deleting and re-uploading the content.
Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri.
The new ‘Replace Audio’ tool enables users to change a post’s soundtrack while retaining existing likes, comments, shares and other engagement metrics. Previously, users had to delete a post and publish it again to change its music.
The feature could be particularly useful for creators and brands whose posts have been affected by music copyright issues, allowing them to replace the soundtrack without losing accumulated engagement.
To replace audio, users can open the post they want to edit, tap the two-line menu in the top-right corner, select ‘Edit’ and choose the option to change the audio.
The move brings Instagram closer to YouTube, which already allows creators to replace music in videos and Shorts without removing the original content.
The update comes as Instagram continues to introduce and refine features aimed at creators, following several recent changes that have drawn mixed reactions from users.
The platform recently faced criticism over a feature that allowed users to modify photos from public Instagram accounts using artificial intelligence. The feature was subsequently removed less than a week after its introduction.
Instagram also launched ‘Instants’ in May, a format designed to allow users to share real-time moments. However, some users reported confusion over the feature and accidentally shared images with their entire friends lists, prompting criticism.
The new audio replacement tool gives creators greater flexibility to manage published content while preserving the engagement and reach that posts have already generated.
