Irene Logan and Edem up for City People Awards

The first edition of the award ceremony was held in Abeokuta in south-west Nigeria in 2009. It is organised by City People Magazine, a lifestyle publication. As usual, the nominations cover music, television, radio and movies. The awards are also for artists and workers in Nigeria and Ghana. Languages covered are English, Yoruba and Hausa mainly.

For the music categories, Ghana’s Edem is up for the male section of the Ghana Musician of the Year Award. Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Bisa Kdei complete the list. Most of these artists have been nominated for other wards, with Bisa Kdei sweeping the Music of Ghana Origin Awards held in March. Sarkodie won four awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The female Ghana Musician of the Year Award has Irene Logan, Efya and Nana Yaa as nominees. The AFRIMA winning Wiyaala, the singers Becca, Yaa Yaa and Mz Vee also make the list.

The 2016 City People Entertainment Awards will be held on 24 July at Yard 158, Oregun, 34 Kudirat Abiola Way in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
