Jazz goes live in Accra

Put together by Alliance Francaise, the festival is organised over the last 5 years, and it has grown from strength to strength making it one of the most anticipated festivals here in Accra. In collaboration with other partner venues, the festival is crowned with the celebration of International Jazz Day.

The 5th Edition, which commences on Saturday 14th – Monday 30th April 2018, will see ten days ofperformances, conferences, fair and workshops with participation from both local and international artistes.

Saturday 14th April: Opening Concert : “Orchestrated Jazz” with the National Symphony Orchestra, Bi- Tonic Singers and Gramophone chorus. The opening concert for the 5thannual Live In Accra Festival will see 2 selected choirs backed by National Symphony Orchestra as they belt out favorite Jazz standards with classical twist. This will be a show like never seen before as this chorale Jazz concert will leave you asking for more.

Tuesday 17th to Thursday 19th April: Workshop– “The essence of Harmony” One of the essential bases of music lie in creating harmony. With this special 3day intensive workshop, participants will be schooled on what harmony is, why it is essential to create music and how to easily access it. This workshop will be facilitated by the keyboard maestro Victor Dey Jnr. Who will train musicians, music lover’s singers from across all genres for this all important workshop.

Saturday 21st April: Tagged Steve Bedi Live in Concert also performing is Sandra Huson, This special concert headlined by ace saxophonist Steve Bedi will engage patrons as he belts out tune after tune from his saxophone. Expect delightful tunes from his albums both old and new accompanied by Sandra Huson.

Wednesday 25th April : Mid-week concert – “The Cosmo Rave” : This entertaining mid-week concert features young talents who will thrill the audience with an interesting blend of contemporary Highlife tunes played from a jazzy perspective as well as drama and dance thereby creating a cosmopolitan fusion of all art forms. This concert will feature the young talent Kwesi Klutse, The Soul Groove Band, Rashid and a host of young talents.

Friday 27th and Saturday 28th April: Fair – “The Women’s Lifestyle Expo” : Presenting the 4thWomen’s Expo 2018, the to-go platform for women who want to find new products and services for their professional, personal and family needs. Expect amazing products ranging from make-up, food and services with this 2 day fair. There will be a fashion show on Friday 27th April.

Saturday 28th April: Closing Concert – ‘Mihi Matshingana (South Africa) and Benjamin Boone (USA) with the Victor Dey Quartet: The closing concert of this festival will be nothing short of spectacular as we present all the way from South Africa, the talented and vocally powerful Mihi Matshingana. This is one concert you do not want to miss. Also performing will be Benjamin Boone an ace saxophonist from the USA with the Victor Dey Jr quartet. If you love Jazz you do not want to miss this.

Monday 30th April: International Jazz Day: to commemorate International Jazz Day, +233 Jazz Bar & Grill presents to you an interesting blend of musicians that will embody the true meaning of Jazz. This will be the Ultimate jazz lover’s dream.
