Beneath the Baobabs Live, a one-day event showcasing live Kenyan music, will take place on 16 April.
The high-energy, eco-friendly fete, to be held at a 50-acre picturesque venue on the Indian Ocean, will feature a heavy dose of absorbing traditional music from the north coast of Kenya as well as a mix of contemporary sounds.
The event will be headlined by musical maverick Blinky Bill and hip hop godhead Octopizzo, who will be joined by Mijikenda legend Mr Bado and percussion group Simba Wanga, among others.
The gates will open at 2pm on Easter Saturday with two stages taking the audience on diverse musical safaris until 10am the following day.
“Momentum will build through the day with acoustic sets and exciting acts backed by live bands such as Lisa Oduor-Noah and Njoki Karu as well as emerging new wave talent like Ayrosh and Labdi in the afternoon and evening on The Twisted Fig stage,” Beneath the Baobabs creative director Matthew Swallow said.
“Once dusk settles, the main stage will be kicked into action with a selection of Kenya’s best live performers and bands, supported by DJs to keep the party on until sunrise for a breakfast session back at The Twisted Fig.
“Live music is one of our great loves as festival producers and we have a vision to grow our Easter plan to become one of the most prestigious live music events in the East African calendar.”
The event is organised as part of a vision to create a year-round festival culture in Kilifi County, and follows a sold-out New Year Revival event.
Beneath the Baobabs comprises a team of dedicated creatives who curate music events and immersive art while showcasing East African culture in Kilifi.
Tickets to Beneath the Baobabs Live are available via Quicket. For more information, visit the official website.
