Kenya’s Machakos county set to host inaugural Artfest
29 May 2015 - 11:47
Kenya's Machawood, Machakos County’s entertainment centre, is set to host Artfest, its first major talent-search contest. The two-day event is set for next weekend, March 20-21, and will involve both music and film exhibitions. During the event film and music producers and distributors as well as other professionals working in the Kenyan entertainment sector will hold workshops for the public at Machakos People’s Park. It will be an opportunity for members of the public to understand how the sector works, and to have their questions answered by the various players.
Practically all the major players in the Kenyan music sector will be in attendance, among them the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO), the Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP), the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) and the Kenya Film Commission.
According to the Machawood CEO, Victor Muniafu, this will be a first in a series of events. “Machawood’s goal is to make Machakos County the premier location for African entertainment,” he said.
