Kenya’s Victoria Kimani releases debut album

According to the singer, the 15-track album is a summary of her life journey and music career.

“This is an attempt to explain myself and my music and let you know what Victoria Kimani is all about,” said the Kimani during the launch.

“I think it is only fair because as much as you are my fans, how can you truly support an artist you do not know much about?” she added.

Safari, Kiswahili for ‘journey’, sums up inspirations Kimani has carried since her childhood, and things she has learned in her career and travels. Noteworthy songs on her debut offering include ‘Giving you’ ‘Safari’, ‘My Money’ and ‘For You’, which features Ice Prince. Other artists featured on the album include Ghana’s Sarkodie, South Africa’s Khuli Chana, Nigeria’s Phyno and Kenyan hip hop artist King Kaka.

The album is available worldwide on iTunes, Mziiki, Apple Music, MTN Music Plus, Deezer and Boom Player among other platforms. A video for ‘Giving you’, which features Sarkodie, was also released on 4 December.

Known for her numerous hits and outlandish style, Kimani entered the music scene in 2010 when she released a remix of Nigerian pop artist Ice Prince’s hit single ‘Oleku’. In 2012 she signed on to Nigeria’s record label Chocolate City and went on to release her chart-topping debut single ‘Mtoto’.

Besides music Kimani has been outspoken on issues such as women’s empowerment. In 2015, Kimani alongside seven other African female musicians and a team from ONE, an international advocacy organization that fights poverty, got together in Johannesburg to create ‘Strong Girl’, a song that sent a message on the empowerment of women across the world.
