Nigeria’s commercial capital will be hosting an unusual reggae party on Friday 30 September.
Tagged ‘HUSH’ and organised by the reggae music promoters Shimmers and Ital Sounds System, the event is the “the first ever silent reggae party taking place in Nigeria”. At the party, each attendee will be handed headphones.
According to the organisers, “each guest [will have] a choice of flipping through two channels of music, Channel 1 playing Foundation, Roots rocking reggae and channel 2, dishing out dancehall vibes.”
An exclusive event, HUSH will cater to only 100 reggae-loving guests. Hosting the show is the reggae artist Buckwylla.
“Reggae music epitomises triuth,” says Lucia Ikedishai of Shimmers about the viability of reggae in Nigeria, “a seemly bitter but necessary pill to help guide our actions and inactions. This silent reggae party takes care of a latent market, yearning for this type of music, which is still loved by many in Nigeria.”
For years, Shimmers and Ital Sounds System have the trend setters in reggae entertainment business in Nigeria. Both establishments collaborate to host several weekly and monthly reggae shows in Lagos.
Venue: 62b Akin Adeyemi Drive, Lekki Phase 1. Time: 8pm to 2am. Tickets: N3,000 ($9). Call +2348023181844 for more information or follow @lucydiashi on Twitter.
