Liberia: Inaugural Creators X summit set for 12 July
10 Jun 2024 - 08:26
Liberia entertainment company BeeVonne has confirmed the inaugural Creators X Summit for 12 July in the capital Monrovia.
Established in 2017, BeeVonne operates with the goal of creating or building a support system for creatives. The company says the trade event, which is aimed at professionals in music, film, fashion and content creation, forms part of this commitment to nurturing a vibrant creative landscape driven by talented individuals.
This year’s edition, running under the theme, Ignite the Spark: The Time is Now, will platform more than 100 creators during panel discussions, workshops, networking sessions and artist showcases.
Confirmed speakers include BBC broadcaster Rita Ray, AWAL global commercial partnerships lead Nnamdi Okafor, A&R executive Exel Joab, and content creator and videographer Paul Saap.
BeeVonne founder and president Beyan Flomo Pewee told Music In Africa that the “solution-driven” gathering would equip creators with knowledge, tools and connections they need to excel.
“Liberia’s entertainment industry is small but vibrant, brimming with untapped talent and opportunities,” he said. “Currently, many of our creators are defying the odds and striving to compete regionally and globally. Unfortunately, in this competitive landscape, they often lack the basic skills and infrastructure needed to jumpstart or amplify the work they are doing.
“For instance, Facebook monetisation is not available in Liberia, making it difficult for creators to earn revenue from their work on the platform. Additionally, major record labels do not seem to have their sights set on Liberia, further limiting opportunities for local artists. Conferences like Creators X should spark a movement for creatives and bridge the gap in the industry. These events are crucial because every industry needs a space where people can learn, collaborate and grow.”
Pewee said the conference would work towards creating a platform that would bring everybody together for the good of the industry while calling attention to opportunities within the creative space.
