Lira and Nomfundo Moh to headline National Women’s Day concert in Durban

The concert will mark the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Women’s March, when more than 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in protest against the extension of the Pass Laws.

The event will see Lira return to the stage following her recovery from a stroke in 2022. Her recent Still Here performances have focused on themes of healing, resilience and perseverance.

She will be joined by Nomfundo Moh, whose music combines contemporary sounds with personal storytelling and themes of love, identity and social experience.

“Lira’s remarkable journey of resilience and hope, together with Nomfundo Moh’s inspiring voice and powerful storytelling, perfectly reflects the spirit of this day. As we commemorate 70 years since the historic Women’s March, we look forward to welcoming families and music lovers for an afternoon that celebrates the strength of women, the power of music and the importance of coming together as a community.”

The concert is expected to feature performances from the two artists in the outdoor setting of the Durban Botanic Gardens, with organisers positioning the event as part of the city's National Women's Day celebrations.
