Music In Africa & Goethe-Institut to host music managers training in DRC

The workshop is aimed at people who are passionate about supporting the careers of musicians, who either would like to become a manager or already are one and want to improve their knowledge and skills.

The objective of this workshop is to provide 15-20 participants with basic knowledge and practical information they need to properly prepare for a successful career in musical management. It also lays the foundations for the long-term organization of certified training for managers.

The workshop will be led by professional experts and managers, among others, Luc Mayitoukou, Director of Zhu Culture, a successful agent and manager of several artists (including Marema, winner of the 2014 RFI Discoveries Award) and Marie-Laure Yaone, a manager based in Kinshasa.

Various themes meeting the needs of managers will be addressed in the workshop, including: the eco-system of the music industry in DRC, Africa and the world; understanding the role, place and obligations of a manager; and career management tools.

The workshop takes place from 24 to 29 May at the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles in Kinshasa.

The deadline for applications closed on 15 May 2016, with female candidates strongly encouraged to apply. A jury comprising experts from the INA, the Mbonda Elela festival, the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles, the Goethe-Institut and the Music In Africa Foundation will now select the participants for the workshop.
