Music Crossroads hosts workshops and concert in Zimbabwe

The workshop facilitators were Music In Africa contributor Professor Fred Zindi, Oliver Mtukudzi, Marco Maggiore and DJ Moran, to mention just a few. The facilitator who was of most interest to the students was undoubtedly Oliver Mtukudzi, a well-established local guru who was able to share his vast experience and knowledge with the students.

To finalise the busy week of the workshops, MCA hosted a special concert dubbed ‘A Night of Jazz, Blues and More!’. Featuring artists at the concert include the Pier-Simone Crinelli Quartet, featuring Mozambican multi-instrumentalist Deodato Siquir, courtesy of the Italian embassy. The concert kicked off with mellow vibes of one of the academy’s promising neo-soul artists Nonhlanhla Muhoni. Jesa, the MCA’s 2015 Imagine Festival winners, raised the energy level with their unique rhythms. Maisha, a local band who are well-known for their trademark blend of blues and pop, did not disappoint as they got the crowd to their feet.

The host for the night, comedian Doc Vikela, was responsible for a fair share of laughter as the night progressed. MCAZ is grateful for the partnership with the Musica Festival, which enabled the hosting of the amazing workshops and night of jazz, blues and more. A strong bond was created between the two organisations as they look forward to Musica Festival in 2016.
