Music Crossroads teachers meet in Harare for Global Music Campus

The campus will train 20 MCA teachers from Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe to develop the technical, theoretical and pedagogical skills needed to improve their livelihood in the creative industry. The training will cover topics that are included in the MCA Professional Certificate Program, including: Music Pedagogy, Melodic Reading, Transcribing, Main Instrument and Ensemble.

The Global Music Campus is an inclusive teacher training and skills development platform providing innovative teaching solutions. The campus aims at training teachers to document and transcribe their own music cultures themselves - thereby developing new teaching materials and curricula for implementation within the targeted geographical areas. Involvement of different regions of Africa enables cultural interaction and collaboration within the various countries attending this year.

All the international teachers/facilitators, organized through Music Crossroads' pedagogical partners Global Music Academy, are experienced and dedicated music educators with many years of experience in the field. As a team, they have been responsible for the development and implementation of the MCA curriculum throughout the life of the project and have taught at the campuses. They have developed an intimate knowledge of the MCA teacher trainees, their strengths, weaknesses and potential.

To wrap up the training, all trainees will perform together at the closing concert hosted at MCA Zimbabwe in mid-December. This concert will invite local music consumers, music stakeholders and musicians. The high quality of this event will allow participants to present skills learnt during the training campus and demonstrate the importance of music education and training, and sensitize the community about the importance preservation of culture and traditional music identity in the region.
