New Scorpion Kings, Ami Faku single tops Apple Music charts in SA

Released last week, the single has now peaked on the streaming platform’s Top 100 South Africa chart, as well as on the Top 25 chart in major cities like Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. ‘Abalele’, which marks the singer’s debut on an amapiano song, has also been trending on YouTube since its release.

Apple Music launched its city charts in more than 100 countries in April. Other African cities boasting Apple Music charts include Accra, Nairobi and Lagos. The charts aim to put the spotlight on both global and local artists, and each chart combines plays and additional signs of local popularity to rank the songs, unlike standard charts that rate music based on the number of plays. The charts are updated daily and appear on Apple Music’s Charts page.

Meanwhile, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, who are collectively known as the Scorpion Kings, are rated as the most streamed South African artists of all time on Apple Music, respectively. The company released the data this week ahead of Heritage Day in South Africa on 24 September.
