Renowned French-Nigerian singer Aṣa has released her fifth LP titled V. The 10-track album is available for streaming and download on all major music platforms.
V, which marks Aṣa’s first true foray into Afrobeats, was heralded by the singles ‘Mayana’ and ‘Ocean’. The project features guest appearances from Wizkid, Amaarae and The Cavemen, and seamlessly blends pop, Afrobeat, R&B, soul and electronic influences. The album also highlights Aṣa’s signature soulful vocals, which create dreamy, ethereal soundscapes.
The album was produced by P.Priime and was born out of a “last-minute decision to return to Nigeria, following a postponement of the European leg of her tour due to COVID-19-induced social restrictions,” Aṣa’s management said.
She said the album’s songwriting process involved “a certain carefreeness, letting go, trusting in the process and allowing myself to be vulnerable”.
“I was at home thinking what to do next like everyone else,” Aṣa said. “So I threw open my door to connect with friends and creatives. I met Priime, he is fresh and has such a clever way with production.”
In support of the album, Aṣa will perform at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London, UK, on 3 May. The concert will be followed by dates in Manchester and Birmingham and a special performance in Lagos on 8 May.
